After examining it, you realize there isn’t anything special about the shield other than its probably in better shape than it should be for being here so long. You can still take it with you though if you’re allowed. It won’t add anything, but it still might come in handy.
The stick is just a plain staff, no respecting adventurer would use something like that to smite his enemies! However if you’re a wizard, you could take it. You still only do 1 point of damage in melee combat though, you’re just beating them instead of cutting them if you use it.
