War of the Gods R

You decide against pressing her further, since you're not sure you have the right to. As long as she doesn't seem ready to take her own life, you feel more or less safe leaving her to her own devices.

You place your hands together in front of you and bow in the manner of your people. "Farewell, my Lady," you say. "I will continue on my way, then."

To your slight surprise, she returns your bow. Maybe it's simply an automatic response, but, in a way, you're glad of it. Surely she would not do so if she hated you for interfering with her attempt to take her own life...? Even as you walk away, you can sense her eyes on you, and they do not feel like eyes of hatred nor eyes that simply wish you to leave so that their owner can take her life in peace.

-Good... At least I have maybe helped her in some way...-

As soon as you're out of her sight, you lift your hands and slowly straighten out your fingers to take a look at the cuts. As you do so, you feel a sharp, sudden pain, and you bite your lip to keep quiet. The cuts go all of the way across your hands, from side to side, but they are not as deep as you had feared, and the bleeding has more or less stopped. Apparently, the woman's sword was sharp and clean, which is good. The cuts will close in a few days, probably, but you will not be able to properly use your hands until they do, and will likely be severely disabled.

-Well, it is not like you can complain about it,- you think. -No one asked you to do this.-

As you continue walking, you realise that you are beginning to get quite hungry. However, you are a little distressed over your lack of progress so far.

What are you going to do?
