War of the Gods
"What are you doing?!" you demand, frightened because of what you just came so close to doing.
"What are you doing?" the man asks you in return. "Killing yourself is never an answer, no matter what the reason."
You blink, taken by surprise by his words. What...? You just tried to attack him! Why is he acting so worried about you?! It's not like he should care. It's not like anyone should care.
You don't care what happens to you...
"It's none of your business!" you snap, trying to stop your voice from trembling. However, your desperation, your sadness, is probably showing through.
You don't want this... You'd be happy just to be able to live in peace, but it doesn't look like that's a possibility.
"No, it is not any of my business," the man agrees, though his voice remains firm as he adds, "I think that you had better reconsider what you were about to do, though."
"I don't see why," you respond, feeling more hopeless than angry now. "It would be much better if I was dead." But the despair that had been driving you to try and take your own life is fading fast. Maybe it's the simple fact that someone is acting like they care about what happens to you...? And there's something...
"It is never better to be dead," the man insists, some slight desperation showing through his tone.
You hesitate, staring at the ground, fighting a struggle deep within your heart. But, really, there's no challenge. If you die, you won't be able to make up for all of those lives that have been lost as a result of you meeting them.
Finally, you walk over to the side of the road where the man threw your sword, and pick it up, slipping it back into your belt.
"Are you going to be all right now?" the man asks, sounding faintly relieved.
"I guess so," you mumble.
"Good." The man puts his hands together in front of him, and bows politely to you. "I will continue on my way, then."
You hesitate, having noticed the fact that he carries a sword, and is clearly a warrior, albeit not very strong physically by his appearance. Either way, he would likely be able to protect you, at least until you can remember what it is you're supposed to.
Or find out more about the strange wizard...
