War of the Gods
You lean back against a tree, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in your hands, and close your eyes, attempting to fall asleep.
However, your sleep is light and troubled. The throbbing pain in your hands constantly wakes you up, and you feel hot, as if under a slight fever. By the time the eastern sky turns a silver grey to announce the approaching dawn, you doze off due to sheer fatigue.
In your dreams is the sound of rushing wings and whispering feathers. You find yourself walking towards the winged woman again, but she has her back turned, her golden wings hiding her figure from sight. As you approach her, you reach out to her, to make her take notice of you, but before you can touch her shimmering feathers, the woman turns and looks at you.
You flinch back. Her face is not the same as before, but that of someone else, and her clear eyes lock with your own.
-Salwi?!-
You stumble out of the dream, your heart racing and your body covered in cold sweat. You flip to your feet, your right hand ready by your sword. Wide-eyed and out of breath, you dart your gaze around, desperately trying to see any movements in the morning fog that hangs between the trees. But you're all alone, and you slowly come to your senses. It had only been a nightmare - it didn't mean anything. Salwi isn't there beside you. You can no longer protect her, and you let your hands drop.
-You cannot protect her, just like you could not save her back then, and you cannot bring her back from the dead, so chase away the mind ghosts before you become insane.-
Shivering, now feeling cold and faint, you sit back down against the tree, though you have no intentions of going back to sleep. Never have you seen Salwi so vividly in your mind or in your dreams - the winged woman must have reminded your soul of her. You can feel the death curse grinning wickedly at your anguish at the edge of your soul, or is it merely your imagination?
You just sit there for quite a while, but then you slowly become aware of someone, or something, approaching you. It doesn't seem to be a threat...
What are you going to do?
