War of the Gods
You're standing outside a dark forest, feeling light-headed and like you've only just stopped crying. You can remember coming through the forest, but it holds no interest for you. Nothing does anymore. The grief you feel is still too raw. How are you going to get through this time? No one else seems to care, or be as bothered. Not even your cousin, who's one of the people who know you best.
"Light, you really need to let go of your grief," the young woman with you says. "I know how you feel... But you're the only one who can stop him now. I've seen what he can do, and I know that you're the only one who even has a chance of being able to stop him."
You shoot Kayata a glare. "Don't presume to guess how I feel," you respond. "You didn't even like him!"
Kayata lifts her shoulders in a slight shrug. "No, it's true that I didn't," she admits. "But you could not have done anything, Light. What are you going to do? Just leave this world to the 'tender' mercies of your brother?"
"It's a tempting thought," you mutter.
Kayata rolls her eyes, but, before she can say anything else, her eyes widen slightly, and she holds up a hand. A bird with dark feathers flies down, and lands on her outstretched arm. Kayata winces a little as the talons dig into her skin, but smiles anyway and lightly strokes the bird's feathers.
