War of the Gods
For a while, neither of you speak up. Light apparently doesn't want to talk, and you are turning everything that has happened over in your mind, trying to collect your thoughts about your unexpected travelling companion.
There are many things that you feel you would like to ask, but only one that really strikes you as important. You realise that she might take offence at your question, so you remain silent for a few moments, trying to figure out the best way to ask your questions. Finally, you turn to her and speak up: "I know I do not have the right to ask, but I am sure you understand why I am asking... What made you think you had nothing left to live for?" As you hear how blunt your words sound when spoken out loud, you add, "I do not mean to offend you off course, Lady Light, please do not answer if I did."
Light seems to hesitate at first, and you don't think she's about to answer. You're about to withdraw your question, but then she replies, "I thought that, with me dead, no one else would be hurt. I'd just escaped from the academy, which was destroyed by a... wizard."
You blink in mild surprise. "Surely that was not your fault?" you question carefully, trying not to upset her. "It was not you who destroyed the academy, so it was not your fault."
"I was there," Light replies with a shrug. "If I hadn't been, then he wouldn't have tracked me there. He was after me."
"I see," you mumble. You can truly understand her feelings, but even though you're still not convinced that Light was to blame for what happened, you can't find anything to say to comfort her, since you realise that you'd more than likely feel the same way in a situation like that. Trying to make her feel differently will probably make you be a hypocrite, so you keep silent about that.
