Molly stood up and looked around at all the pale sallow faces, that had before always seemed so full of life. She turned to look at the people still on the little cushioned platform. Flute boy seemed to be struggling to compose himself, but his fists still had little white lines from where his hands had gripped the sheets.
Things were a far cry from what they had been. The woman on the floor was still sobbing, and in between her sobs she whimpered the word Laters again and again. Molly walked over to the woman, for once not feeling more aware of the nudity of people. Gently she put a hand on the womans shoulder. It was trembling, and she felt helpless to sooth the womans pain away. The womans shaking seemed to slow beneath the hand Molly offered.
What happened? Molly voice was deep with the need to know she looked around accusingly at the people in her presence. What is going on?
Her question was directed to pretty much anyone in the room besides the woman mumbling senselessly. Most people averted their eyes, as if her questions forced them to relive the awful moments from before. She narrowed in on Red, but the girl turned so that her face snuggled more firmly against the Brownies hip.
Someone tell me what just happened! her voice was raised she recognized the panic in her tone even as she struggled to turn it to rising anger. Anger would get things done, fear meant a break down. Everyone wanted to talk before, what, now no one has anything to say?
The Darkness came, the woman whispered, her voice wet with tears. The Darkness came, and took him away.
He should have come in sooner, one of the men near the door said coldly.
The woman groaned and bent at her waist, her tears flowing freely again. Molly turned to the man, he was beautiful, but something about him seemed cold, almost like stone. He didnt care for the loss, he was too relieved it hadnt been him. Molly realized that as she looked him over, and felt disgust. She let it show on her face, and he took a step back.
Yeah, its some guys fault he didnt get in soon enough. Molly scoffed. Get in from what? WHAT HAPPENED?
The man looked away. She would get no answers from him. She was beginning to wonder if she would get any from anyone. People seemed to all have closed down. Several forms moved through the candle lit shadows to the bed.
No, you cant ignore me. I want to know what just happened here. Someone tell me what happened? Molly used her or else tone.
Theres nothing to say, Brownie one snapped. Youll see for yourself tomorrow, and know everything that we know.
Molly felt as if she had been slapped. Her head turned to examine the people now moving closer and closer to the bed. She heard people comforting one another. But mostly they comforted the girl on the floor, her hand stretched toward the door fragile and limp. Molly moved to the bed and settled back in the spot she had originally held. Flute boy touched her arm, and gestured for her to lay down. She wanted to fight, to scream, but nothing would bring the answers she sought, she knew that.
She seemed to fall asleep before her head hit the surface of the bed. She was already deciding what she would do in the morning. Molly wanted to ...
