Molly's Key MA

Molly’s eyes take in the landscape. She could be looking at a real life version of a Thomas Kinkade painting. It seemed lovely, but empty of reality, too glorified, too perfect. Whatever was troubling Red, Molly didn’t see it.
“It’s coming,” Red whispered, her voice deep with an emotion Molly didn’t understand.
Red and Brownie One took off at a run, racing for the cottage. They seemed completely oblivious to the fact that Molly hadn’t moved. Brownie Two had the foresight to stop and grab her wrist. Molly heard other people moving fast behind her, moving from the trees, and noticed that everything and everyone was headed for the little village in the valley.
Against her will, or rather without her express permission, her feet began to move. Joining them in their herd. It was a stampede until they reached the door of the house. Then things returned to normal. Molly chuckled to herself, all that excitement just to make it home in time for dinner. Still, she felt a little uneasy.
She was shocked, when next she looked outside the world had gone black. People seemed prepared for this, and all the shutters were closed from the inside, shutting out the darkness
