Just an Olde Fashioned Love Song
"All right, Gunther, if you'll just stand here in the center of the room." Alex looked up and saw his hesitancy. "There's nothing ritualistic about it, I just want you out of the way."
Gunther laughed, and stood in the center of the room while Alex began rummaging through various things on the chambers edge. It was a miracle all this junk could fit in the room and still be able to reach the spiral staircase, let alone have someone else in the room!
"Okay, Gunth, first things first. Do you trust me?"
"Well, yeah."
"Good. The spell probably wouldn't work otherwise. You have to focus solely on Melissa. If you were worried about me being magically incompetant, your lack of focus would screw up the spell."
"Wait, what?" said Gunther. "Now that you've thrown in a disclaimer, I think I am kinda nervous!"
"Nah, most of that's normal. The spell understands the near impossibility of you focusing your thoughts on only one thing. But you do have to be pretty close. Now, are you thinking only of Melissa?"
"Well, right now I'm thinking about responding to your question, but I will within the next five seconds provided you don't say anything funny or distracting."
Alex smirked. "Fair enough. And...that's it."
"What, the spell's over?"
"Not everything is cantrips and ceremony. I told you it was an easy spell. Just wait for it to work. It could be slow to set in."
"Well, okay, if you say so," said Gunther. "But I'm not sure that it...whoa...I feel funny..."
"That's an understatement," observed Alex. "Your entire body is shifting."
Gunther looked at his reflection in a full-sized mirror, a gaudy piece with runes that probably meant something. He could see himself, well...extending would be the word- his shoulders were growing outward, and his body was becoming taller. His shoulders and chest filled out with solid muscle, and his arms and legs squirmed as the muscle was similarly altered there too. His facial features slid as though his face was melting, and his hair color changed from a greasy brown to a fair shade of blonde coming from the roots and spreading outward. The last thing to change were his eyes; the irises faded to a pierce shade of light blue.
"Whoa..." said Gunther. "I look amazing!"
"Yeah, and your clothes don't look half bad either. It's amazing what happens when baggy suddenly becomes fitted," noted Alex, smirking. "It's a good thing, too, because I'm not sure you could pull off naked very well."
"Anyway, I'll just head off to class and...umm, wait. That probably wouldn't work well, huh?"
"No," agreed Alex, "A strange teen randomly sitting down in a small math class doesn't seem to happen very often. I suggest you drop in on Melissa's dorm."
Gunther laughed, and stood in the center of the room while Alex began rummaging through various things on the chambers edge. It was a miracle all this junk could fit in the room and still be able to reach the spiral staircase, let alone have someone else in the room!
