You get out your books, and open your Maths one first. For a moment, you look at the list of problems. Then, you get out a pencil, and start working them out. You work quietly, with your lower lip caught between your teeth.
You're briefly aware of your mom entering the room, but don't glance up, and after a few moments, she leaves again.
Finally completing your Maths homework, you then start on your English, trying to make a start on your essay, at least. About a fifth of the way through, you realise why you put it off for so long.
