You listen to the scientist, Daniel Browne, talking. At the moment, you and a group of others are in a laboratory. Apart from Daniel, and a Japanese woman, you and the others are teenagers, here to gain some extra credit so that you don't flunk college.
You are finding it hard to listen to Daniel, though. You don't mean to be rude, but listening to talk about technology makes you bored. There are so many big words, and Daniel's voice is a monotone, just droning on in the background.
In an attempt to alleviate your boredom, you look around at the rest of the group.
Apart from the Asian scientist, there is Lira Kneightly. She's kind of pretty, with long white-blonde hair and light blue eyes. She's also a loner at college, though. Not one of the really popular kids. You haven't made much effort to get to know her. She doesn't really interest you a great deal.
Alison, the rich girl, is standing nearby with her boyfriend, Ross. Both are wearing quite bored expressions, and Ross' arms are around Alison. They look almost like they could be brother and sister, with similar blonde hair and dark blue eyes. However, there is quite a big difference in size. Alison is small and slight, and Ross is stocky and muscular. He's had to be, being one of the better football players.
From Alison and Ross, your gaze moves to Jason, and you frown to yourself. Jason the rebel. From the look on his face, it seems like he is waiting for a chance to cause trouble. You have heard that he is quite strong, and picks fights with people.
Lastly, you look at the Japanese woman. She had come late to the laboratory, and you can see that there is tension between her and Daniel. She's been watching you closely, and you find yourself flattered by her attention, even though she's at least a decade older than you.
You tune back in to Daniel's words to hear him say something about chemicals. Before he can say anything else, though, there is a loud crash that seems to come from outside the door.
